Candle Care
How to Get the Most From Your Candle
A candle is more than fragrance; it becomes part of the atmosphere of a home. Proper candle care helps preserve an even burn, a cleaner flame, and a longer-lasting experience from the very first light to the final burn.
Trim the Wick Before Each Burn
Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch.
This helps:
- create a cleaner flame
- reduce excess smoke
- prevent uneven burning
- avoid mushrooming at the wick tip
Cotton wicks and wooden wicks both perform better when kept short and clean.
Let the Wax Melt Evenly on the First Burn
The first burn is the most important.
Allow the melted wax to reach close to the edges of the vessel before extinguishing the flame. This usually takes around 2–3 hours depending on candle size.
This helps prevent tunneling and supports an even burn throughout the life of the candle.
Avoid Drafts
Place your candle away from:
- open windows
- ceiling fans
- strong air conditioning
- moving airflow
Drafts can cause:
- flickering flames
- uneven wax pools
- excess soot
- faster burning
A calm flame creates the cleanest burn.
Burn on a Stable Heat-Safe Surface
Always place candles on a flat, heat-resistant surface while burning.
Natural stone, ceramic trays, or stable decorative surfaces work beautifully while also protecting furniture.
Do Not Burn for Too Long
For best performance, avoid burning candles for more than 4 hours at a time.
Allowing the wax to cool between burns helps preserve fragrance quality and wick performance.
Know When It’s Time to Stop
Discontinue use when approximately 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel.
This helps prevent overheating of the glass container.
Creating Atmosphere Through Ritual
Lighting a candle is often connected to quiet routines:
- slow mornings
- evening conversations
- reading
- reflection
- welcoming guests
- creating warmth at home
Simple candle care helps preserve those moments beautifully over time.
